START WITH A
CLEAR CONTRACT.
Understand your source, model the data, and plan the failure paths. Practical charging API resources for moving from a first request to a considered integration.
Your integration, step by step.
01 / Scope
Choose one useful outcome.
Define the reader or operator’s task. A location finder needs different data from a vehicle charging view or a session operations tool. Write the minimum information needed to serve that outcome, including what should happen when the data is missing.
02 / Source
Verify the provider’s contract.
Confirm coverage, supported fields, timestamps, permissions, pagination, limits, and usage rights. Keep provider credentials in the secure environment appropriate to your actual application. Obtain access directly from the selected provider.
03 / Model
Normalize without hiding meaning.
Keep original IDs, units, and source information alongside your normalized fields. Decide how unknown, unavailable, zero, and not applicable differ. Record measurement time separately from the moment your application received the data.
04 / Verify
Exercise the uncertain cases.
Test missing readings, stale observations, rejected permissions, interrupted requests, and duplicated events. For commands, establish how the system confirms the actual outcome. Avoid presenting a request acknowledgment as proof of completed charging behavior.

USEFUL READING.
PRACTICAL DECISIONS.
The API integration checklist
Set a data contract, handle permissions, and define useful behavior when requests or observations fail.
OCPP and OCPI explained
Understand the roles of charging stations, management systems, and roaming exchanges.
Plan an API budget
Evaluate requests, refresh frequency, operational work, and provider-specific usage conditions.
Make availability meaningful
Preserve status context and freshness without turning an old observation into a current promise.
Choose the right official starting point.
ChargeAPI.com’s examples illustrate application-level data models; they are not a production endpoint contract. Use the official reference for the provider or protocol you select.
